Head of Procurement & Logistics

As the Head of Procurement and Logistics for NEM Balcke-Durr in our Recklinghausen office. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing and transforming our purchasing function, driving procurement excellence, and optimizing our worldwide supplier relationships. You will develop and execute procurement strategies, in close cooperation with the Strategic Procurement team in the Netherlands, that support the company's goals while ensuring cost efficiency, quality, and sustainability. As the Head of Procurement and logistics, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of our procurement practices, driving value and ensure sufficient procurement/ logistics resources can be deployed.

Key Skills & Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the overall procurement strategy for EGBS systems in cooperation with Strategic Procurement in the Netherlands for the Exhaust Gas By-pass Systems, aligning it with the company's business objectives and growth plans.

• Lead and manage a team of procurement/ logistic professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and development opportunities to optimize their performance and foster a culture of excellence.

• Drive the transformation of the purchasing function by implementing best-in-class procurement practices, processes, and systems to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.

• Oversee the development and implementation of strategic sourcing initiatives, ensuring the selection of high-quality suppliers who meet the company's cost, quality, and sustainability requirements.

• Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and contractors, negotiating favorable terms and conditions, and driving continuous improvement in supplier performance.

• Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including sales, engineering, quality control, project management and finance, to align procurement strategies with their needs and ensure seamless integration of purchasing activities.

• Safeguard robust supplier evaluation and selection processes, including performance metrics, risk assessment, and supplier audits, to ensure compliance, quality, and continuity of supply.

• Drive cost optimization initiatives by identifying cost-saving opportunities, negotiating competitive prices, and implementing strategic sourcing strategies.

• Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track procurement performance, identify trends, and drive data-based decision-making.

• Stay abreast of industry trends, market dynamics, and technological advancements in procurement practices, and leverage them to drive innovation and efficiency in the purchasing function.

Candidate requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, supply chain management, engineering, or a related field. An advanced degree is preferred.

• Proven experience (5+ years) in a leading role preferably in procurement or strategic sourcing, within the energy industry or a related sector.

• Proven experience with technical products and large (>5 mio) projects.

• Demonstrated success in transforming and optimizing procurement functions, driving strategic initiatives, and delivering measurable results.

• Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams, foster collaboration, and drive a culture of continuous improvement.

• Proactive and innovative mindset, continuously seeking opportunities for process improvement and operational efficiencies.

• Deep expertise in strategic sourcing, supplier management, negotiation, and contract management.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to leverage data and insights to make informed decisions and drive strategic procurement initiatives.

• Strong business acumen, with a focus on achieving cost savings, improving quality, and driving operational efficiency.

• Highly proficient in Dutch and English, both verbally and in writing.
